THE VAMPIRE’S CURSE
By S.J. Wright
“Let me introduce myself. I am Theodora.” There was regality in that voice. It was impossible to deny that this woman was quite powerful. Just the quiet dignity of the way she sat was enough to prove that point. She held herself as a queen might.
“It’s nice to meet you.” I replied, still not able to look her in the face. Fear was still rising inside me.
“You are afraid.” She said lightly. “There’s no reason for that, my dear. I have no intention of doing you any harm.”
“Are you a vampire?”
She nodded and smiled a little sadly, “Yes, I am. But probably not the kind you might expect.”
“There are different kinds of vampires?” This was news to me.
Waving a pale hand, she shook her head, “We’ll not delve into those matters at this point. Let us discuss your current role.”
I considered her statement and the situation as a whole. I was in an unfamiliar place with a very dangerous stranger who had just admitted to being a vampire. Anger ignited inside me like a bright fire.
“Let’s just cut through the bullshit, okay?” I demanded.
Her expression went from benevolence to pure shock in an instant. Her ebony eyes widened, and her lips opened.
I leaned towards her, “I don’t know what you want from me. But you haven’t given me any indication of who you really are, and I’m getting tired of being the last one to know what the hell is going on with all this vampire crap.”
About S.J. Wright
Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, at a time when children were still not required to use seatbelts in a vehicle, S.J. Wright grew up as the sixth of seven sisters. She moved around a lot as a child, spent a good deal of her time reading books about horses, roller-skating (in an attempt to find Xanadu), and daydreaming about becoming a novelist.
She now lives in Little Elm, Texas with her husband, two sons, and one Jack Russell terrier that follows her around the house like a shadow. She is the prime caregiver to her youngest son, who has spina bifida. She loves horses (and swears one day she’ll actually get the guts to ride one again).
In February of 2011, she released her first paranormal suspense/romance novel called The Vampire’s Warden. She plans to release a total of four books for the series. S.J. (Stephanie) also loves hearing from her readers! Be sure to check out her website at http://www.sjwrightbooks.com.
