[Blog Tour] Anna Dressed In Blood by Kendare Blake

Guest Post from Kendare Blake

What do you do when you’re not writing?  Can you give us a typical day?
A typical day? How boring do you want this? Because I can doboring, on a typical day. Here goes. I wake up, eat something, usually notcereal because sweet doesn’t do it for me early on. Cereal is more like a snackfood to me. Sometimes you get on that cereal kick, too, where you eat like fourbowls in a day.

Anyway, after that I get myself together, maybe do a littleworking out first, keep the writing-desk butt at bay, do any cleaning aroundthe place that needs cleaning, subject myself to a couple of minutes oflap-cat, because he hasn’t had enough time with me after sleeping on me allnight long and slowly driving me into a pretzel ball in the corner of the bed.

The husband is usually up by this point and we may go dosomething arty, or wildlife-y, like the zoo, or a hike, or the aquarium. Maybehit an outdoor market. If it’s Tuesday, there are cheap movie tickets at atheater that serves bitchin’ potato skins and beer. But if we don’t do any ofthat stuff, we may video game our lives away. Right now we’re mindlesslyhacking our way through Devil May Cry 4. It was only seven bucks at GameStop.

Somewhere in there is food, anything fried or cheesy isgood. Nitrates are good. When we want to go healthy, we’ll eat Pho. In theevenings if we’re home we’ll usually barrel our way through whatever we’ve goton the DVR. Fringe. Boxing. Wilfred. Chopped. Midnight or so, the day is over.

And that’s a somewhat typical day off. Sex and the City it’snot, but I like it.

Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.So did his father before him, until his gruesome murder by a ghost he sought tokill. Now, armed with his father’s mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels thecountry with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together theyfollow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead—keeping

pesky things like the future and friends at bay. When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressedin Blood, Cas doesn’t expect anything outside of the ordinary: move, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he’snever faced before. [Review] Graffiti Moon by Cath Crowley

Graffiti Moon
by Cath Crowley

Paperback, 272 pages
Expected Publication: Feb 14th 2012
Publisher: Knopf Books for Young Readers

Senior year is over, and Lucy has the perfect way to celebrate: tonight, she’s going to find Shadow, the mysterious graffiti artist whose work appears all over the city. He’s out there somewhere—spraying color, spraying birds and blue sky on the night—and Lucy knows a guy who paints like Shadow is someone she could fall for. Really fall for. Instead, Lucy’s stuck at a party with Ed, the guy she’s managed to avoid since the most awkward date of her life. But when Ed tells her he knows where to find Shadow, they’re suddenly on an all-night search around the city. And what Lucy can’t see is the one thing that’s right before her eyes.

It was a funand one of a kind; I love it!

I’m Lucy andwas obsessed with him, the guy named Shadow. He’s a Graffiti artist thateveryone talks about, I love his works and it’s everywhere I look at. Now Imust find who he is.
Ed is theonly person I know who knows how to find Shadow but I hate him. But I’m willingto take the risk just find Shadow.
Would Lucyfind the one person she likes with the help of this guy? I she see pass theimperfections and realize that she really likes Ed?
This is myfirst aussie author read and I cannot say anything bad about this book. It wastotally fun and a wonderful read. The story of Ed and Lucy is one of a kind. Itrevolves around Lucy finding Shadow a Graffiti artist which she’s totallyobsessing with. She finds the canvases of Shadow very inspiring and with thatshe wants to meet this mysterious artist. I love how the story progress withthe POVs of Ed and Lucy. I cannot say how much fantastic this book is in termsof the prose’s it just makes you love the characters more with theirvulnerability, it shows their true emotions specially the character of Ed. Ireally admire the fact that this is a book with different POVs it suffice myquestions through and through with the changing of POVs. I for myself love artand how Cath Crowley describes the art with words it just comes to life. Alsowith the POV of Poet also know Leo, even if it was really short it was writtenwith brilliance. The whole story itself is brilliance. This book has one of thestories that you will never ever forget, it has a right mixture of everything. The redeeming factor in the end is what got me.
Lucy and Edare just fantastic characters, they were well written characters. Ed is a verytough guy but has the vulnerability of a glass. While reading his point of viewit makes me want to comfort him through and through his problems. I can totallyrelate to this character, he’s one character that you would totally fall for. Withhis point of view I understand how he really feels about Lucy, he is one guythat can be romantic and be tough at the same time. Lucy on the other hand Isay is very inconsistent, I don’t know but I think she’s one character thatdescribes a real girl, with her character I believe that girls are somehow likeher. She is also tough but doesn’t know her emotions to others for they mighttake it as an advantage against her. All the minor characters also jive well onthe story, Jazz as a best friend is one of a kind, I kind of wish I have a bestfriends like her, Poet is just downright cute. You rarely find a guy who writesPoetry these days and for that I just admire him.
The cover isgood! I totally love it; it’s very simple but conveys the whole story.
The entirestory is just amazing, Graffiti Moon was written with brilliance. I admire CathCrowley for incorporating art and poetry. I can always say that I suck for guyswho can draw and who can write poetry. This is one story that I cannot forget easily.

[Interview] Mary Ting Author of Croassroads

Today we have Mary Ting author of Crossroads for an Interview
1.    What do you like most about writing?
It helps me escape everyday life stress, not that my life is so stressful, but we all have problems, little or big.  I love creating stories where readers can do the same, escape into my world I’ve created.

2.    Who among the characters of Crossroads are more alike like you?
Though I don’t like to admit it, Claudia is just like me.  Her experiences are my personal experiences…first car, first job, first time camping, but too bad there was so Michael when I was in high school…lol!!!

3.    Could you give us a little background about how you came up with Crossroads?
Crossroads was inspired by a dream I had in high school-chapters one and two. I like to think that Crossroads is a place between Heaven and Earth. When I crossed over in my dream, I knew I was in a spiritual place. I remember feeling overwhelmed by the sea of clouds. My dreams gave me the idea on how to start my book.
4.    Who’s the author you look up for the most?
All authors inspire me, but I would have to say Stephenie Meyer because I took her idea and started writing Crossroads from a dream I had high school.
5.    Is there any future project you want to share to us?
I am currently working on a sequel to Crossroads.
6.    Can you give us some fun facts about you/your characters and on your writing Crossroads
Many people like Davin, which I’m really happy about because his character was inspired by my friend who passed away. He was very likable and was a best friend to all his friends. Patty is my friend from church. She is exactly how I described her, social butterfly who knows everything about her friends and fashion. I named Claudia after a student I once had many years ago. I can still picture her face, just like an angel. When I was much younger, I had a crush on a boy name Michael, but his character is based off my husband, protective, romantic, and silly at times. No… he doesn’t have wings…lol!

Thank you so much for having me!!!

 About Crossroads

Claudia Emerson has a good friend who shares the same first name and last name. That friend unfortunately dies in a tragic accident during homecoming dance. Claudia is distraught at the loss of her friend, but is even more disturbed by her dreams, which seem to take her to another place called Crossroads. Unknown to her, Crossroads is like a second heaven, a place between heaven and earth. It is where the souls of humans in comas or near death experiences may wander. Where, Claudia meets Michael, a nephilim, a half angel, half human, whom she often meets in her dreams. It turns out that this isn’t her first visit to Crossroads, which is an enigma for no human can ever travel there until Claudia. Now the fallen and demons are after her, suspecting she must be special and it is up to Michael and the other nephilims to protect her. Her dream becomes a nightmare as more secrets are revealed, about who she really is, and the true identities of the people she loves most. Can Michael fight his growing feelings for Claudia and protect her as a guardian angel should?

About the Author

Mary Ting resides in Southern California with her husband and two children. She enjoys oil painting and making jewelry. Writing Crossroads was a way to grieve the death of her beloved grandmother. It was inspired by a dream she once had as a young girl.

Description from Goodreads:

Sexy, powerful, and immortal, Limos is on a crash course with destiny. She’s been marked as Satan’s bride and her jealous fiancé wants her all to himself. The only way this Horseman can keep herself—and everyone else—safe is to keep her distance. But not even Limos can save herself from the secrets she’s kept . . . or resist the seductive allure of one very brave human.

Arik Wagner knows the saying “love hurts” better than most, yet he never thought stealing a kiss from Limos would land him in Hell. Literally. It takes all his military training to survive the demon torture, but once he’s topside, Arik realizes that the agony has just begun. With the Apocalypse looming and Satan demanding his bride, will Arik and Limos surrender to the desire smoldering between them? Or will giving in to their passion unleash hell on earth?

[Review] Circle Nine by Anne Heltzel

Circle Nine
by Anne Heltzel

Harcover, 272 pages
Published: September 13th 2011
Publisher: Candlewick Press (MA)

She knows only Sam, a mysterious teenage boy. He is her sole companion; her whole life. She was born, already a teenager, lying outside a burning building in soot-stained clothes, remembering nothing, not even her name. He showed her the necklace she had on, the one that named her: Abby. Sam brought her to live in his cave-palace, where he gives her everything she needs. He loves her. He protects her from the world outside, from everyone who wants to hurt them, like the denizens of Circle Nine, Dante’s deepest circle of hell. But even in a charmed, brand-new life like Abby’s, change will come. Sam falls ill. A new girl comes to stay, and Abby begins to question Sam’s devotion. With doubt comes emotional turmoil, changes in perception, and glimpses of her past identity. In this courageous psychological thriller, Abby tells the story of living her new life and discovering her old one, while grappling with an ever-changing reality.

A world that is created with questions and doubt, it will keep your page turning and turning.

She doesn’t know anybody, all she knows is Sam. The mysterious boy who she knows is her only hope in finding the truth. Who she really is, and why doesn’t she remember anything from the past, not even her name. With only a necklace named her Abby, the only thing she can do is trust Sam. With Sam bringing in a new girl she started to question if Sam really loves her. With the glimpse of the past constantly reminding her that she knows her for a reason, Abby decided to look for the truth.
My Thoughts
Circle Nine is a very enjoyable read; I find the book really intriguing that’s why I kept turning the pages until I finished it. It follows the story of a girl who doesn’t know who she is, not even her name. All she knows is that her name is Abby basing on the necklace that she has. She met Sam on one and only person that she knows and only trust. Even if she doesn’t know Sam very well she trusted him with her life because it’s the only thing that she can do. Without knowing anyone who else can she trust? Sam has been a very kind person to Abby, everything she needs; Sam provides it for her. But then she started regaining memories of what has happened, she started asking questions which Sam doesn’t approve of. Whilst Sam is keeping secrets from her she decided to look for the truth on what really happened, why she doesn’t have the memory, who she really is. I like how the story revolves on how Abby tries to remember things; it gives the reader a point of view of someone who happens to have lost a memory, in a way I somehow imagine myself being like it. I may not say that it conveyed the proper emotions of but by just reading Abby’s point of view I think justice has been served right to the emotions that I’ve felt for Abby. The world building is really good, though I really wish that there is more emphasis on Circle Nine which is the title.
That characters as well as the book is very much confusing. I like the character of Abby. With saying I think she’s one of the book characters that I really admire. If I was in her place figuratively speaking I would die, or maybe yet go nuts forever. Abby showed how strong she really is which I really admire, despite Sam being protective of her she didn’t just stopped there. She tried to ask questions and by asking she wants the truth. Even if it hurts Sam and herself in the process she decided to look for answers. I like Sam for just being Sam himself, but of course minus the complications. I love how he looks out for Abby; I genuinely feel for Sam because I think he really loves Abby and just wanted her to be safe.
The cover is really good, I really like it. It shows how the book is really dark and with only a glimpse of the outside world is which is really good job on that but I really suggest a better cover art than this one.
Overall I like this book; I really enjoyed the story and the characters while reading it. One thing I suggest is that I would really like to hear the point of view of Sam. What’s his purpose not saying the truth to Abby, what’s his reason on protecting Abby, does she really loves Abby. So many questions to be asked but I think this book is a standalone so I guess I just have to ask the author. I suggest this to you if you like a dark, thrilling and shocking read. This is a very dark and exciting debut that I suggest you should not miss out. I believe it’s worth the read.
