My thoughts?

If you want a break of reading those vampire-werewolf-human love affairs and is in the mood for the real deal Romeo and Juliet scheme, then this book is the best for you. It literally portrays the whole star crossed-lover drama, except that their families are like bffs and its the protagonists who are denying their feelings for each other and they have this dilemma of who’s going to spill it first.

John Michaels the male protagonists has this perfect social status as leader of the track team, VP of the supreme student body, the chick magnet, the friendly dude, and well, he’s the one that almost everybody worships in school. Why just ‘almost’? Because there’s Jennifer Vienvu. Now that he’s also invaded the theater, which is actually her territory, she wants to prove everybody that she’s good and she doesn’t want to live behind his shadow because she knows he isn’t perfect and that somehow the guy has flaws. Oh she knows, alright. They are neighbors, they were childhood best friends and their room windows are practically facing each other’s.

With both sides giving hints and getting each other into cat fights led by their pride and cockiness, the novel narrates us the typical girl-boy story in which I could almost tell that its cliche (and I did hope that the writer wrote a lot more complicated rather than just having the two protagonists jumbled up their feelings in between the play and in their real life situations). But its texts and descriptions are well constructed and delivered even for an overly used plot, and I must say it didn’t fail to tickle the side of me who’s still in for that typical romance story.

My thoughts?

While YA Paranormal-Romance novels don’t tend to be very appealing to me, I love how this book isn’t just the ordinary girl-meets-hot-guy-not-to-mention-he’s-a-guardian story, but it has so much than that — something really deeper that will change your life’s point of view. I have to admit that only a handful of books moved me emotionally, and though this book may not be the best one to do such thing for me, I do appreciate the realizations this book has taught me.

It’s amazing how this book felt so real and genuine. And when I say realization, I’m talking about how this book made me feel like the road to life might be tough, bumpy and full of challenges at times, but at the end of the day, despite all the complaints and grievance, we still have things to be thankful for no matter how big or small that we don’t even notice. And Zoe’s life isn’t an exception. She might look like a typical teenager, but deep inside she carries an emotional baggage and pressure of dealing with her sister Abria with autism, and the negligence she feels from her parents because of each of them’s responsibility of taking good care of her sister. Under this tough circumstances, don’t we sometimes seek for a means of escape? Don’t we sometimes want a space to breathe and let go of our problems, just for a second? I think we all do.

And Zoe’s escape is partying. While that might sound inappropriate and childlike, I admire Zoe. Despite wanting to release her anger and frustration brought by her difficult life, her love for her sister remains unconditional. I can totally imagine how sometimes you want to complain, but you just can’t put it aside for the one general thing that she is your FAMILY. She’s a part of you and you just can’t take that away. Right? And it’s not just Zoe I admire but their whole family. Their strong faith in each other didn’t fail them in the end and it kept them going. Honestly speaking, the love story between Matthias and Zoe didn’t push a strong impact for me, and the ending was a bit off. I’m just like drawn to the family unit more in the story, and it just kind of odd to think that Zoe had to go and leave her beloved family behind. I guess I’m not yet ready for that, but well…

In my opinion, I think books should be as realistic as this kind of novel as possible. It feels good to relate and learn something that you can actually apply in reality, and this book didn’t fail.

My Thoughts:

This is my first time reading Jennifer Laurens book I got this from one of her twitter giveaways. I got instantly hooked while reading it! The story is engaging and really keeps me reading throughout the whole chapter. First I thought of this book while reading its synopsis is that it’s just your typical High Society Princess and Body Guard who fell in love with each other end of story. But I was wrong for me it was beautifully written and the characters and plot is really good. You may realize that the plot maybe something familiar but in the end you’ll be surprise of what the ending is. It was really an enjoyable read for me and its really great that I get to read this wonderful story.

This book has made me feel that it is always possible to be in love with someone no matter who they are; no matter what they’re position in life is, even if your parents forbids it. When it comes to love you’ll do anything just to protect your love ones. You can do everything just to protect them but when it’s you who gets Overprotected you’ll feel that you need air and thus makes you rebel from the ones that only thinks of your safety.

It always intrigues me what it’s like to be living on a high society, but then I always think that I might not survive it for the fact that freedom is one thing I really like. Freedom of speech is one thing I practice and I believe everybody is entitled to their own opinion. If I ever live in a high society like Ashlyn maybe I’ll be timid about my thoughts just because everyone is looking out for what are you going to say, and if you’re going to make mistake.

Plot wise it is really great the story of Ashlyn and Collin is one of few story that I won’t forget. Her Daddy hired her worst enemy as her bodyguard; Collin is bound to protect her. Will they find each other in the midst of hating each other with what happened with their past? Will Collin be able to protect Ashlyn from the threats that even her dad cannot see?

All in all this is a great book, one book I tell you not to miss reading! A story that I really wish I was part of. I want to say kudos to Jennifer Laurens for capturing my heart with this wonderful story.

What I Finished

[REVIEW TO COME]
What I’m Reading

Synopsis
A zombie who yearns for a better life ends up falling in love—with a human—in this astonishingly original debut novel.

R is a zombie. He has no memories, no identity, and no pulse, but he has dreams. He doesn’t enjoy killing people; he enjoys riding escalators and listening to Frank Sinatra. He is a little different from his fellow Dead.

Not just another zombie novel, Warm Bodies is funny, scary, and deeply moving.
